Iris stared at the stereo during the Eartha Kitt song and seemed stunned and confused. I haven’t seen her like that since she first heard Count Basie’s swingin’ horns.

It’s the kind of thing she normally likes — brass instruments and a clear, unusual voice. But when Miss Kitt holds those long notes, Iris doesn’t seem to know what in the world we’re listening to. This is the part that almost seemed scary:

I could not be wearierrrr
Life could not be drearierrr
If I lived in Siberiaaaaaaaaaaaa

We’ll have to try it again and see if she warms up to the style.
