Iris likes bluegrass. I don’t know if it’s the funny high harmonies, the fast rhythms, or the violins that used to scare her. One time, she was falling asleep in Lorraine’s arms earlier than we expected her to, but when I sang the first three or four words of “Carrie Brown,” she sprang awake and made the sign for music. Today we started and ended with bluegrass songs.
“Hardcore/Ballad” didn’t make much of an impression, so we’ll probably drop it. I’d like to find a good Elvis Costello song that she’d like, but I’m not sure this is the one.
I tried to break our habit of listening to the same two Finley Quaye songs all the time. These were a nice change of pace.
Iris likes almost anything by Victoria Williams. She hasn’t heard much Tom Waits, but she nodded her head during this one. It’s about a New Orleans funeral.
Most of these songs are available on iTunes here.
